Lebanon Valley Sinks Franklin Pierce, 9-1

Senior Brian Yingling nets hat trick to lead Flying Dutchmen

WINCHENDON, MASS. (Jan. 19, 2003) - Senior Brian Yingling netted three goals and dished two assists to lead Lebanon Valley to its fourth-straight win, defeating Franklin Pierce, 9-1, in ECAC Northeast men's ice hockey action at the Robinson-Broadhurst Community Rink this afternoon.

Freshman Cameron Vanderveer recorded two goals and two assists in the win, while junior Doug MacCormack added a goal and dished three assists. Senior Tim Rink totaled two assists and classmate Ben Kwon registered a goal and an assist.

The Flying Dutchmen had their first chance to score as freshman Jarod Warsofsky was awarded a penalty shot at the 8:30 mark of the first. However, junior goalkeeper Andy Tinti (Buffalo, N.Y./SUNY-Canton) stoned Warsofsky as he tried to beat Tinti on the left side.

The Flying Dutchmen soon after got on the board as Vandeveer one-timed a perfect pass from MacCormack to make the score 1-0. Lebanon Valley picked up its second goal just two minutes later as Yingling capitalized on his own rebound to give the Flying Dutchmen the two-goal lead. Lebanon Valley finished up the first with Yingling's second goal of the afternoon.

Franklin Pierce finally answered a minute into the second period as freshman Neal Callahan (Manchester, N.H./Manchester West) sent classmate Robert Pendola (Everett, Mass./Mass. Mariners) one-on-one with Lebanon Valley goalkeeper, Joe Burley.

The Flying Dutchmen were too much for the Ravens, however, and went on to score six unanswered tallies and make the final, Lebanon Valley 9, Franklin Pierce 1.

Tinti made 31 saves in net in 40 minutes of work before giving way to freshman Dennis Millman (Billerica, Mass./Kimball Union) who made 12 saves in 20 minutes in net. Burley recorded nine saves for the win, while freshman Ryan Ehrhart posted nine saves in the final 20 minutes of regulation.
