Middletown, N.J., native earns program's first weekly honor

RINDGE, N.H. (January 14, 2003) - Franklin Pierce freshman Matt Clemente (Middletown, N.J./Laconia Junior Leafs) was named ECAC-Northeast Rookie of the Week as announced by the Conference office this afternoon.

Clemente earned the first such weekly honor in program history after becoming the netting the first hat trick in the program's brief varsity history. Clemente netted all three goals in the second period of the match-up with Fitchburg State College last Wednesday. The Ravens and Falcons were tied at 3-3 entering the third period thanks to Clemente's three markers, but FSC squelched the Ravens search for their first varsity victory with three goals over the final ten minutes of the third period.

Clemente currently leads the Ravens with eight goals, which ranks fifth among ECAC-Northeast leaders, and nine points, which ranks 19th.

Franklin Pierce's (0-10-1, 0-5-1 ECAC Northeast) quest for its first varsity win continues tomorrow, as it hosts Western New England College in an ECAC-Northeast battle at the Robinson-Broadhurst Community Rink in Winchendon, Mass., at 8 p.m.
