Franklin Pierce Falls to Curry, 5-1

MILTON, MASS. (Jan. 18, 2003) - The Franklin Pierce men's ice hockey team dropped a 5-1 decision to Curry College in ECAC Northeast Conference ice hockey action at the Max Ulin Rink this afternoon.

Curry College sophomore Chester Ferreira netted a pair of goals and dished two assists to lead the Colonels. Classmate Brian Doherty recorded two helpers in the win.

The Ravens' lone goal was scored by freshman Robert Pendola (Everett, Mass./Mass. Mariners). Pandola, a new addition to the Ravens' lineup has totaled three goals in his first two games as a member of the team.

The Colonels stuck just 16 seconds into the opening period with Ferreira's first goal of the afternoon. The Ravens answered quickly as Pendola was sent in on a pass from junior Derek Mandatori (Newton, Mass./Newton North) at the 1:05 mark to knot the score at one a piece.

Curry jumped back out to the one goal lead as junior Kevin Narciso netted what would prove to be the game winner at the 5:41 mark. The Colonels tacked on one more marker at 10:35 to close out the first period.

The Ravens held the Colonels off through most of the second period, but freshman Michael Solesky converted passes from Ferreira and Dan Bliss to help Curry put away the game for good.

The Colonels sealed the win with its final goal from Ferreira with under two minutes to play in regulation and make the final, Curry 5, Franklin Pierce 1.

Junior goaltender, Andy Tinti (Buffalo, N.Y./SUNY-Canton) made 46 saves in net for the Ravens despite the loss. Curry freshman, Lenny Mosca, made 14 saves in net for the win.

Franklin Pierce (0-12-1, 0-7-1 ECAC NE) returns to the ice tomorrow when it hosts Lebanon Valley College in a Conference game at 2 p.m. at the Robinson-Broadhurst Community Rink in Winchendon, Mass. Curry College (7-7-0, 3-3-0 ECAC NE) next travels to Western New England College on Thursday for a Conference game at 7:30 p.m.
