WINCHENDON, MASS. (Feb. 1, 2003) - Junior Josh Tierney recorded two goals and dished one assist to lead Assumption College to an 8-1 victory over Franklin Pierce in ECAC Northeast men's ice hockey action at the Robinson-Broadhurst Community Rink this evening.

Assumption senior Bob Reddish and junior Dan Pike each registered a goal and an assist, while sophomore Scott Hersom added two assists.

Franklin Pierce's lone goal was scored by freshman Rob Pendola (Everett, Mass./Mass. Mariners), who netted his sixth of the season. Classmates Matt Clemente (Middletown, N.J./Laconia Leafs) and Shawn Dooley (Rockland, Mass./Archbishop Williams) assisted on the goal.

The Greyhounds jumped out to the early lead as Reddish blasted the puck through a crowd of Franklin Pierce defenders at the 1:48 mark to go up by one. The Hounds tacked on another marker just three minutes later as freshman Geno DeAngelis got by two Raven defensemen and beat Franklin Pierce goaltender, Dennis Millman (Billerica, Mass./Kimball Union) one-on-one to take the two goal lead.

Assumption extended its lead to three goals midway through the first when junior Rian Murray converted a feed from Reddish on the power play, but the Ravens finally answered at the 15:24 mark with Pendola's marker to make the score 3-1.

The Ravens held the Greyhounds scoreless for the first half of the middle period, but Assumption tacked on three-straight goals in a span of eight minutes to take a commanding 6-1 lead heading into the final period.

Tierney netted his second goal of the evening and freshman Kevin Cotter added a goal in the third period to make the final, Assumption 8, Franklin Pierce 1.

Assumption freshman Frank Landino made 27 saves in 60 minutes of work for the win. Millman recorded 26 saves in 40 minutes in net before giving way to junior Andy Tinti (Buffalo, N.Y./SUNY-Canton) who turned away 12 shots in 20 minutes.

Franklin Pierce (0-17-1, 0-12-1 ECAC NE) next hosts Framingham State College in an ECAC Northeast Conference matchup at 8 p.m. Assumption (7-10-0, 4-6-0 ECAC NE) next hosts Stonehill on Tuesday in a League game at 7:30 p.m.
