Saffell Snatches Rookie of the Year, Men's Golf Has Three Receive NE10 All-Conference Honors

MANSFIELD, Mass. (6/8/23) – On Thursday afternoon, the Northeast-10 Conference announced its 2023 All-Conference Men's Golf teams, with five Raven golfers receiving recognition.

Highlighting the list was freshman Seth Saffell (Castro Valley, Calif.), who in addition to third team honors was tabbed as the Northeast-10's Rookie of the Year. Senior Michael Sosik (Fiskdale, Mass.) continued the list as a First Team honoree while junior Thomas Hickey (Moultonborough, N.H.) rounded it out with Third Team honors. Saffell is a first time recipient of All-Conference hardware, while Hickey earns his second round of recognition, and Sosik his third.

In his first collegiate campaign, Saffell quickly grew comfortable with the setting and claimed his first tournament win at the American International Yellow Jacket Invitational on April 3rd and 4th. In addition to his victory, Saffell also finished second-overall at the NE10 Conference Championship this past October, which saw the Raven freshman shoot even-par across three rounds of play. Throughout the duration of the season, he secured four top-10 finishes finishes, which also included a second runner-up completion. Saffell becomes just the second Raven player to claim Rookie of the Year honors from the NE10, and the first since Dylan Plis during the 2017-18 season.

Sosik is no stranger to All-Conference recognition, as he brought his career top-10 finishes total up to 12 with five in 2022-23. Of that list, Sosik posted two separate runner-up finishes, with the first coming at home during this past fall's Franklin Pierce Invitational, where he shot two-under par with a 138 card. This past spring, Sosik also claimed 2nd at the Saint Anselm College Hawk Invitational, where he went four-over par across two rounds (72, 74 -146).

Hickey, in his third season with Pierce, enjoyed a career year where he set new personal bests, including his first ever sub-70 round at the home Franklin Pierce Invitational (68). At the start of the spring, Hickey also claimed his fourth-career top-10 finish at the Saint Rose Golden Knight-Orlando Invitational, where he shot a 142 card for two-over par to tie for third individually, which additionally was his best score across 36-holes.
