Yamamoto Named Player of the Year, Bishop Tabbed Coach of the Year, Five Others Named All-Conference

MANSFIELD, Mass. (June 11, 2021) For the second straight season, the Franklin Pierce University women's golf team had an athlete named the Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Year, this time it belongs to graduate student Zoey Yamamoto (Honolulu, Hawaii) while women's head coach Tyler Bishop was selected as the women's coach of the year this week after a collection of votes by the leagues' head coaches.

Yamamoto's Player of the Year selection makes it the fourth time a Raven golfer has achieved that honor (Camden Morrison - 2016-17 & 2017-18, Jinnapat Rittawee - 2019-20). For her efforts, Yamamoto was also named to the NE10 First Team. Coach Bishop takes home his fourth total coach of the year honor, his third for the women's program.

Two other women's golfers earned All-Conference nods. Sophomore Alia Godek (Feeding Hills, Mass.) joined Yamamoto on the First Team while freshman Kayla Schuberth (Wrentham, Mass.) earned a Second Team selection. On the men's side, graduate student Sam Myers (Colchester, Vt.) and sophomore Michael Sosik (Fiskdale, Mass.) collected men's First Team bids while senior Dylan Plis (Camillus, N.Y.) rounded out the Ravens selections on the Second Team.

Yamamoto earns her fifth straight First Team nod. A three-time conference champion and two-time NE10 All-Championship team athlete, Yamamoto did not finish lower than third place in all three invitational for the Ravens. At the Hartford Invitational, in a field of all Division I golfers, Yamamoto was the co-medalist shooting a 72 (E) scorecard. In the Ravens' invitational win on Monday at Assumption, she placed second with an 83 (+11) showing. At the NE10 Championship, Yamamoto paced the field with medalist honors firing a 167 (+25) for her third conference championship and second All-Championship Team honors. At the NCAA Division II East Regional, Yamamoto finished 37th at 251 (+35).

Godek, a Second Team selection last year earns the All-Conference First Team bid this year. At the Hartford invitational, she totaled a 90 (+18) for a share of 30th place. In the head-to-head against DI Merrimack, Godek finished sixth at 78 (+6). In the team victory at the Assumption Invitational, the sophomore tied for fourth with an 84 (+12) scorecard. Godek shined in the conference championship earning an All-Championship Team nod tying for fourth with a 176 (+34). She was the Ravens most improved golfer en route to the conference title knocking off 14 strokes from her round one total while pacing the field in pars (16). At the East Regional, Godek carded a 263 (+47) to place 42nd.

Freshman Schuberth earned a place on the Second Team. The Raven newcomer was extremely consistent in her three competitions this year. She placed eighth in both tune-ups for the NE10 Championship going 81 (+9) at the FPU Women's Spring Invite and 86 (+14) at the Assumption Invitational. Schuberth elevated her game in the conference championship earning an All-Championship Team nod finishing third at 171 (+29) with 13 pars, the second-most in the field. At the East Regional, Schuberth was the leading golfer for Pierce at 249 (+33) to finish 34th.

For the men, Myers, a former Second and Third Team athlete for the men's program gets his first First Team selection. He collected a medalist honor at the Granite State Spring Invitational shooting a 70 (-1) through one round. He placed fifth at the Bentley Spring Invitational (149, +7) and at the Saint Anselm Spring Invitational (150, +8). At the NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Regionals, he totaled a 236 (+20) for a share of 32nd place.

Sosik, a first-time NE10 Honoree joined Myers on the First Team. The sophomore All-Championship Team golfer finishing the conference championship as the runner-up at 148 (+4). The week before at the Franklin Pierce Spring Invite he tied for fourth with a 76 (+5) scorecard. At the Granite State Spring Invitational, Sosik had a share of fifth at 75 (+4). At the Atlantic/East Regionals he recorded a 241 (+25) showing.

Plis earns his second Second Team bid earning All-Conference honors all four years. The upperclassman took part in every tournament for the Ravens this spring and notched back-to-back top-two finishes, a tie for second at the Saint Anselm Spring Invitational (147, +5) and first at the Franklin Pierce Spring Invite (71, E). At the Atlantic/East Regionals, Plis deadlocked for 40th at 238 (+22).
