Abbott leads Men’s Golf to third place after day one at NEIGA Championships

BREWSTER, Mass. (October 26, 2014) – The Franklin Pierce men's golf team hit the course for this first time in almost two weeks on Sunday, as the stand eleven strokes out of the top spot behind Bentley, and one stroke behind second place Southern New Hampshire at the NEIGA Championships held at The Captains Course in Brewster, Mass.

Leading the way for the Ravens was freshman John Abbott (Higganum, Conn.), who carded a 73 (+2) to give him a second place finish on the day, three strokes off the lead. The second best Raven on the day was junior Nick Adjutant (Rochester, N.H.) who finished in a tie for eighth, shooting a 78 (+6). Junior Brad Auclair (Cumberland, R.I.) was the last Raven in the 70's, shooting one shot behind Adjutant with a 79 (+7) finishing tied for 14th. Freshman Hunter Byram (Coventry, Conn.) and Chris Pasto (Newton, N.H.) rounded out the Ravens participation for the day, as Byram finished with an 81 (+9) and Pasto with an 82 (+10).

Bentley leads the team bracket after three of their top guys finished atop the board, sandwiching around Abbott. Southern New Hampshire finished second, followed by Franklin Pierce in third. After that, it's American International, Assumption, Saint Anselm, Saint Rose, and Saint Michael's.

Malcolm Oliver of Bentley came out with the top individual score for the day shooting a 70 (-2), finishing as the only player in the field under par.

The Ravens take back to the links for day two of the tournament tomorrow, Monday October 27.
