Men’s Golf 10th After First Day of Cottrell Invitational

Event concludes on Monday

Pennington WEST CHESTER, Pa. (April 12, 2015) – After the first day of the Dr. Edwin B. Cottrell Invitational, hosted by West Chester, the Franklin Pierce University men's golf team sits 10th, out of 14 teams. The Ravens shot a 322 (+38) on Sunday at the par-71, 6564-yard Penn Oaks Golf Club.

The Ravens, who failed to card a round lower than 78 on Sunday, sit 21 shots behind first-place Millersville, which turned in a 301 (+17) on the first day of the Cottrell Invitational. Millersville holds just a one-shot lead over host West Chester, which fired a 302 (+18).

Freshman Will Pennington (Heswall, England) shot a team-best 78 (+7) for the Ravens on Sunday, and was the only Franklin Pierce golfer to break 80. Freshman Hunter Byram (Coventry, Conn.) and junior Nick Adjutant (Rochester, N.H.) each followed with an 81 (+10), while junior Brad Auclair (Cumberland, R.I.) turned in an 82 (+11) to round out the team's scoring. Meanwhile, freshman Tom Arisco (Cheshire, Conn.) carded an 88 (+17) to round out Franklin Pierce's participation on the day.

Penn Oaks GC played tough on the first day of the Cottrell Invitational, as Indiana of Pennsylvania's Kenneth Sames was the only golfer to break par, by shooting a 69 (-2) to lead the field. Sames holds a three-shot lead over Millersville's Conor Gilbert, who fired a 72 (+1).

The Cottrell Invitational concludes with its second round on Sunday at Penn Oaks GC.
