Ravens proud to host NE-10 Championship at Bretwood CC in Keene

RINDGE, N.H. (September 27, 2013) – The Franklin Pierce University men’s golf team was picked to finish seventh out of 10 teams at this weekend’s Northeast-10 Conference Championship, as announced by the league in its coaches poll released this week.

The Ravens earned 40 points and one first-place vote in the poll, while Bentley was picked to win the league title with 73 points and two first-place votes. The voting was done by league’s 10 head coaches.

Franklin Pierce is proud to be hosting the 2013 Northeast-10 Conference Championship, as the event will be held at Bretwood Country Club in Keene, N.H, which serves as one of the Ravens’ home courses throughout the year.

Franklin Pierce enters this weekend’s conference championship with a lot of momentum following an impressive performance two weekends ago at the Northeast Challenge at the Lake Sunapee Country Club in New London, N.H. The Ravens finished third in the tournament with a two-round total of 610 (+50), including carding a fantastic final round 297 (+17), which was the lowest team score during the last day of competition.

The Ravens’ starting five for this weekend’s championship will include junior Stew Wise (Angiers, N.C.), sophomore Brad Auclair (Cumberland, R.I.), sophomore Sean Shepard (Griswold, Conn.), senior Adam Spencer (Jericho, Vt.), and sophomore Nick Adjutant (Rochester, N.H.).

Wise finished seventh at the Northeast Challenge with a two-round total of 149 (+9), including firing an impressive 72 (+2) on the final day. He tied for 24th in the NE-10 Championship last season after posting a 158 (+14) at the En Joie Golf Course in Endicott, N.Y.

Spencer is competing in his second conference championship tournament in three years, as he tied for 20th at the 2011 NE-10 match with a score of 158 (+14). That finished helped the Ravens place second in the tournament, marking the program’s highest finish ever at the NE-10’s. It helped catapult the Ravens to a trip to the NCAA Tournament the ensuing spring, which also marked the team’s first trip to the nationals in program history. Spencer is coming off a strong performance two weeks ago at the NE Challenge, as he tied for 14th with a score of 151 (+11), after shooting in the 70s both days, including a final round 73 (+3).

Shepard wasn’t far off of Spencer’s pace at the NE Challenge, as he tied for 16th with two-day number of 152 (+12), including an opening-round 75 (+5). Shepard is appearing in the NE-10’s for the second-straight year after tying for 28th last fall with a score of 159 (+15).

Auclair’s path to this year’s NE-10 is quite similar to Shepard’s in that he also placed 28th at last season’s NE-10 Championship. Auclair is coming off a 29th place showing at the NE Challenge two weeks ago (158, +18), but rebounded on the final day with a strong five-over-par, 75, to give him some momentum heading into this weekend’s conference tilt.

Adjutant’s appearance at this weekend’s conference championship is his first at the league meet. He was part of the Ravens’ starting five in the season-opening tournament at Bretwood on Sept. 8-9, and turned in a 15th place finish after shooting a 164 (+20).

Franklin Pierce finished seventh at last season’s NE-10 tournament, which was won by Adelphi with a two-round score of 602. The Ravens were 30 shots off the pace at 632. However, the Ravens feature a solid top-five this year filled with experience and depth, and hope to capture the magic of two years ago when they held the 18-hole lead heading into the final round of the NE-10 championship.
