CAPE COD, Mass. (October 28, 2012) -- Sophomore golfer Stew Wise (Angiers, N.C.) fired a three-over-par, 75, to tie for first place out of 171 golfers at the 2012 New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championship, held on Sunday at The Captains Course in Cape Cod, Mass.

Wise advanced to a playoff for individual medalist honors and came up just short as he fell to UMass-Lowell's Harry Hulme on the second playoff hole.

Franklin Pierce, as a team, tied for 16th in the tournament out of 35 schools, including several NCAA Division I programs. The Ravens shot a +41 (329) in the tournament, which was shortened from 36 holes to 18 due to Hurricane Sandy, which is expected to hit the New England region beginning on Monday afternoon.

Wise marked the third Raven this fall to finish in first place in the individual standings of a tournament, as freshman Brad Auclair (Cumberland, R.I.) claimed the title at the SNHU Penmen Invitational back in September, and junior Adam Spencer (Jericho, Vt.) took home medalist honors at the FPU Fall Invitational #2 three weeks ago at The Shattuck in Jaffrey.

Speaking of Auclair, he too, had a fine afternoon at the NEIGA as he tied for 18th with a score of 78 (+6).

Classmate Sean Shepard (Griswold, Conn.) shot an 86 (+14) to tie for 116th, while senior co-captain Ricky Gray (Jaffrey, N.H.) tied for 144th with a 90 (+18). Fellow senior captain Ian Landry (Loudon, N.H.) shot a 92 (+20) to tie for 150th.

UMass-Lowell and Saint Anselm shared team championship honors as they both carded 311s (+23) for the tournament. The Ravens did finish ahead of one Division I school, which was Niagara, which placed 23rd with a 338 (+50).

Franklin Pierce wrapped up its fall season at the NEIGA and will resume action with the spring schedule beginning in early April.
