Ian Landry Cards 3-Under 69 to Lead Golf on Day One of FPU Division II Fall Invitational

First under-par round for Landry in his collegiate career

ROUND ONE RESULTS

KEENE, N.H. (September 9, 2012) -- The Franklin Pierce University golf team opened its 2012 fall season in fine fashion on Sunday as the Ravens carded a 15-over-par, 303, during the first round of the FPU Division II Fall Invitational at the Bretwood Country Club North Course (par 72) in Keene, N.H.

The Ravens sit in fifth place, 10 strokes back of leader Southern New Hampshire, which carded a 293 (+5) during the opening round. The 303 turned in by Franklin Pierce marked one of the five lowest scores for a round in program history.

Leading the charge for the Ravens was senior co-captain Ian Landry (Loudon, N.H.), who shot a fantastic three-under-par, 69, which marked the lowest round of his collegiate career. It also marked the first time that Landry shot under par for a round in a collegiate match.

Landry will enter Monday's final round in a three-way tie for first place as Nyack's Camden Lawrence and Southern New Hampshire's Scott Underhill also fired 69's on Sunday.

Sophomore Stew Wise (Angier, N.C.) also turned in a stong season debut as he totaled a 76 (+4) to sit in a three-way tie for 14th place. Freshman Sean Shepard (Griswold, Conn.) made his collegiate debut for the Ravens, and after struggling going out with a +5 through the first nine holes, recovered quite nicely by shooting a one-over on the back nine to sit in a tie for 20th place with a six-over-par, 78.

Senior co-captain Ricky Gray (Jaffrey, N.H.) fired an eight-over, 80, to tie for 25th after the opening 18 holes. Franklin Pierce's other golfer to compete on the afternoon was junior Adam Spencer (Jericho, Vt.), who shot an 83 (+11) to sit in 38th place going into Monday's final round.

Two others Ravens are competing in the tournament as individuals, including freshmen Brad Auclair (Cumberland, R.I.) and Nick Adjutant (Rochester, N.H.). Auclair sits in 20th place after round one as he carded a 78 (+6), while Adjutant shot an 81 (+9).

The FPU Fall Invite concludes on Monday with the final round, slated to begin at 8 a.m.
