Ricky Gray & Ian Landry Lead Golf to Win at FPU Spring Invitational

Ian Landry caps solid collegiate career with impressive performance

KEENE, N.H. (April 24, 2013) -- The senior duo of Ricky Gray (Jaffrey, N.H.) and Ian Landry (Loudon, N.H.) turned in a pair of spectacular rounds in their final match on Wednesday afternoon to lead the Franklin Pierce University golf team to a first-place finish at the FPU Spring Invitational at the Bretwood Country Club's North Course (Par 72) in Keene, N.H.

Franklin Pierce shot a 32-over, 320, to win the team title as the Ravens finished ahead of Saint Michael's (339, +51) and Worcester State (347, +59). Franklin Pierce claimed its third tournament title of the year as the Ravens were also crowned champs of the SNHU Penmen Invitational back in September and the FPU Fall Invitational in October.

Both Gray and Landry fired seven-over-par, 79s, and claimed a share of the medalist honors with Saint Michael's Corey Carlos following 18 holes.

The trio went to a playoff where Carlos outlasted Gray on the second hole (No. 1) to win the individual title. Landry fell out of the playoff on the first hole, which was contested on No. 18.
It marked the fourth time this season a Raven either won the individual title of a tournament or finished in first place following 18 holes of regulation play.

Landry's impressive performance capped a solid four-year career which saw him earn First-Team All-Northeast-10 Conference honors in 2011 and compete in Franklin Pierce's starting five at the 2012 NCAA Division II Tournament East/Atlantic Regional.

Gray's final round of his Franklin Pierce career was a special ending to a remarkable story. He had never picked up a golf club prior to coming to Franklin Pierce, and in fact, only took up the game a few years ago while he was rehabbing from injuries sustained in a car accident while in the military.

Freshman Nick Adjutant (Rochester, N.H.) shot an 80 (+8) to finish in a tie for fourth, while classmate Brad Auclair (Cumberland, R.I.) followed in eighth with a 10-over, 82. Rookie Sean Shepard (Griswold, Conn.) was the fifth Raven in the starting five to compete on the day as he tied for 15th with a 97.

Three other Ravens competed as individuals during the afternoon, including sophomore Matt Bardsley (Orange, Mass.), who turned in a solid eight-over-par, 80, to tie for fourth. Junior Adam Spencer (Jericho, Vt.) tied for sixth with an 81 (+9), while senior Jeff Gloshinski (Worcester, Mass.) tied for 10th with an 84 (+12) in his final collegiate match.
