ROUND 2 RESULTS

CAPE COD, Mass. (October 18, 2011) -- The Franklin Pierce University golf team played just as strong in Tuesday's final round of the 2011 NEIGA Championship and ultimately finished tied for 11th out of 34 teams (628, +52) in the prestigious tournament at The Captains Course in Cape Cod, Mass. After shooting a 315 (+27) in the opening round on Monday, the Ravens responded with an even better score in the final round on Tuesday as they carded a 313 (+25).

The impressive finish for the Ravens at the NEIGA Championship capped an incredible 2011 fall season for the team. Franklin Pierce posted several highlights, including finishing second at the Northeast-10 Conference Championship in early October -- the highest finish in program history. Two golfers finished in the top-10 of the conference championship -- senior co-captain B.J. Powers (Southbury, Conn.) and junior Ian Landry (Loudon, N.H.) -- and thus earned First-Team All-NE-10 honors. Franklin Pierce also won the FPU Fall Invitational last week and got a second-place finish from freshman C.J. Konkowski (West Chesterfield, N.H.).

This week's NEIGA Championship featured 34 schools from across New England, including several Division I programs. Franklin Pierce finished of three Division I programs, including Dartmouth (Ivy League), Fairfield (MAAC) and Providence (Big East). Bentley won the tournament with a two-round total of 606 (+30), while Holy Cross' Steven Zychowski won the individual title with a two-round score of 146 (+2).

Powers, along with fellow senior co-captain Brian Fleckles (Sandwich, Mass.) were the highest Ravens finishers in the tournament as the duo tied for 22nd out of 169 competitors with a two-round score of 154 (+10) each. Powers shot a second round 76 (+4), while Fleckles carded a final round 80 (+8).

Landry tied for 55th after he shot a second round 78 (+6) to produce a two-round total of 158 (+14). Sophomore Adam Spencer (Jericho, Vt.) tied for 94th after carding a two-round total of 162 (+18). Spencer rebounded from an opening round 83 to post a seven-over-par, 79, in round two. Konkowski was the fifth Raven to compete in the tournament and he finished tied for 119th with a score of 167 (+23). He shot a final round 82 on Tuesday.

Franklin Pierce will return to action for its spring season in early April. The team will get together one more time this fall and that will come Thursday night when the Ravens are honored for their historic NE-10 finish at halftime of the field hockey game at 6 p.m. in Sodexo Field.
