Golf Sits in 11th Place Out of 34 Teams Following Day One of NEIGA Championship
Fleckles sits three shots off the lead entering final round on Tuesday
CAPE COD, Mass. (October 17, 2011) -- The Franklin Pierce
University golf team shot a respectable 27-over-par, 315, on Monday
during the opening round of the 2011 NEIGA Championship at The
Captains Course in Cape Cod, Mass. With the solid opening round,
Franklin Pierce finds itself in 11th place out of 34 teams entering
the final round on Tuesday.
Senior co-captain Brian Fleckles (Sandwich, Mass.) had an outstanding opening 18 holes as he fired a two-over-par, 74, to sit in a tie for fifth place out of 168 competitors. Fleckles will enter the final round just three shots off the lead. Three golfers are tied at the top after each shooting a one-under, 71, on Monday, including Steven Zychowski (Holy Cross), Spencer Sweitzer (Bryant) and Kevin Daniels (American International).
Classmate and fellow Ravens co-captain B.J. Powers (Southbury, Conn.) is tied for 41st after he carded a first round score of 78 (+6). Junior Ian Landry (Loudon, N.H.) shot a first round score of 80 (+8) to find himself in a tie for 69th entering Tuesday.
Two other Ravens competed in the first round, including sophomore Adam Spencer (Jericho, Vt.), who is tied for 108th after shooting an 83 (+11). Freshman C.J. Konkowski (West Chesterfield, N.H.) is tied for 122nd after firing an 85 (+13).
Bryant and Holy Cross are tied for the top spot in the team standings following the first round as both schools shot a 301 (+13).
The final round of the NEIGA Championship will be held on Tuesday at The Captains, and will tee off at 8 a.m.
