Golf Wins 2011 Franklin Pierce Fall Invitational at Bretwood Country Club

Brian Fleckles, Ian Landry and Adam Spencer each tie for ninth in the individual standings

KEENE, N.H. (October 13, 2011) – The Franklin Pierce University golf team continued its strong fall season on Wednesday as the Ravens fired a 24-over-par, 312, to win the 2011 FPU Fall Invitational at the Bretwood Country Club in Keene, N.H. It marked Franklin Pierce’s second top-two finish in the last three tournaments, including a runner-up placing at the Northeast-10 Conference Championship two weeks ago.

Franklin Pierce was led by freshman C.J. Konkowski (West Chesterfield, N.H.), who fired a three-over-par, 75, to tie for second in the individual standings. It marked the highest finish of his young career as it came on his home course, which he has played for several years prior to joining the Franklin Pierce golf team.

A trio of Ravens tied for ninth in the standings after they each carded a 79 (+7). The trio included senior co-captain Brian Fleckles (Sandwich, Mass.), junior Ian Landry (Loudon, N.H.) and sophomore Adam Spencer (Jericho, Vt.).

Senior co-captain B.J. Powers (Southbury, Conn.) earned a top-15 finish as he tied for 13th after firing an eight-over-par 80.

Franklin Pierce also fielded a second team for the event and several of those golfers had solid afternoons. Ricky Gray (Jaffrey, N.H.) and Jeff Gloshinski (Worcester, Mass.) each notched a top-20 finish as they tied for 18th after both shot an 83 (+11). Freshman Mike Alario (Ashburnham, Mass.) placed 27th after shooting an 88 (+16), while senior Matthew Lennon (Bow, N.H.) carded an 89 (+17) to finish one spot back at 28th. Senior Robert Greggerson (Seekonk, Mass.) finished 30th after shooting a 100 (+28).

Franklin Pierce returns to action next week at the NEIGA Championship on The Captains Course in Cape Cod, Mass. The tournament will be held on Monday and Tuesday.
