Golf Sits in 20th Place After Round One of 2012 NCAA Tournament

Ravens appearing in NCAA Tournament for first time in program history

ROUND ONE RESULTS

HERSHEY, Pa. (May 7, 2012) -- The Franklin Pierce University golf team carded a 58-over-par, 342, on Monday to sit in 20th place following the first round of the 2012 NCAA Division II Tournament East/Atlantic Regional at the Hershey Country Club-East Course in Hershey, Pa.

Wilmington (Del.) is in the lead following the first round as it carded a 301 (+17) on Monday. Indiana University (Pa.) follows in second at +23 (307), while Northeast-10 Conference foe UMass-Lowell is in third at +26 (310).

The course conditions proved tough throughout the entire day as rain blanketed the Central Pennsylvania region for several hours. The Hershey East Course, which at one time played host to the PGA Championship, plays a little more than 7,000 yards, thus the soggy conditions on Monday seemed to extend the length of the course.

The Ravens, making the program's first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament, battled through the elements in the early portion of the round and were among the top-10 teams in the standings through 10 holes completed.

Sophomore Adam Spencer (Jericho, Vt.) sits in a tie for 52nd place following 18 holes as he carded an 81 (+10). Senior co-captain Brian Fleckles (Sandwich, Mass.) follows in 58th place after shooting an 11-over-par, 82.

Freshman C.J. Konkowski (West Chesterfield, N.H.) shot an 89 (+18) to sit in a tie for 95th place, while senior co-captain B.J. Powers (Southbury, Conn.) and junior Ian Landry (Loudon, N.H.) follow in 99th with a 90 (+19).

The NCAA East/Atlantic Regional will continue on Tuesday with the second round. The Ravens will tee off at 7:30 a.m.
