Men's Golf Wraps Up Spring Regular Season with Pair of Tournaments
C.J. Konkowski wins FPU Spring Invitational #2
RINDGE, N.H. (April 26-27, 2012) -- The Franklin Pierce University golf team concluded its 2012 spring regular season over the past couple days as the Ravens competed in a pair of tournaments, including the FPU Spring Invitational #2 at The Shattuck on Thursday, and at the Elms Invitational on Friday.
In Thursday's home tournament, the Ravens won the invitational as they shot a 29-over-par, 317, while Saint Michael's finished second with a 321 (+33). New Hampshire's club team took third with a 339 (+51).
Freshman C.J. Konkowski (West Chesterfield, N.H.) won the individual title with a 74 (+2). It marked the first individual victory of his collegiate career and his third top-10 finish this spring. Sophomore Adam Spencer (Jericho, Vt.) tied for fourth after shooting a 78 (+6), while freshman Matthew Bardsley (Orange, Mass.) finished in a tie for seventh after shooting an 82 (+10). Junior Ricky Gray (Jaffrey, N.H.) was Franklin Pierce's other top-10 finisher as he placed ninth with an 11-over-par, 83.
In Friday's tournament, held at the Westover Golf Course in Granby, Mass., the Ravens finished fourth out of nine teams as they shot a 45-over, 325. Host-school, Elms, won the tournament with a 311 (+31).
Spencer led the Ravens as he turned in a career-high tying second-place finish with a five-over, 75. Senior co-captain B.J. Powers (Southbury, Conn.) and freshman Stewart Wise (Angier, N.C.) tied for 20th with an 83 (+13), while junior Ian Landry (Loudon, N.H.) followed with an 84 to take 24th place. Gray tied for 38th after he carded an 89 (+19).
