Golf Finishes Fifth at AIC/NE-10 Invitational
B.J. Powers fires four-over-par, 76, in final round to move up to 14th place
LUDLOW, Mass. (April 17, 2012) -- The Franklin Pierce University golf team carded a final round, 321 (+33), on Tuesday and finished in fifth place out of six teams at the AIC/NE-10 Invitational. The Ravens finished with a two-round total of 637 (+61) at the Ludlow Country Club in Ludlow, Mass.
Senior co-captain B.J. Powers (Southbury, Conn.) rebounded from a sluggish first round by posting a strong final round score of 76 (+4) to tie for 14th place. He, along with junior Ian Landry (Loudon, N.H.), were the highest Raven finishers in the tournament as both carded 158's (+14). Landry had a strong first 18 holes as he shot a 75 (+3), but fell back on Tuesday with an 83 (+11).
Senior co-captain Brian Fleckles (Sandwich, Mass.) tied for 24th in the tournament as he shot identical scores of 81 (+9) in both rounds and totaled a 162 (+18) over 36 holes.
Sophomore Adam Spencer (Jericho, Vt.) and freshman C.J. Konkowski (West Chesterfield, N.H.) rounded out the Ravens competing in the tournament as they finished 26th and 27th, respectively. Spencer posted a two-round score of 19-over-par (163), including a final round score of 85 (+13). Konkowski posted a 165 (+21) over both rounds, including a second day total of 81 (+9).
Host-school American International won the tournament with a 602 (+26), while UMass-Lowell finished as the runner-up with a 607 (+31).
Franklin Pierce also sent a five-man team to the Worcester State Invitational on Tuesday. The Ravens finished 12th out of 15 teams (+64, 352) and were led by junior Ricky Gray (Jaffrey, N.H.), who finished tied for 23rd after firing an 84 (+12). Freshman Stewart Wise (Angier, N.C.) tied for 33rd with an 85 (+13), while junior Jeff Gloshinski (Worcester, Mass.) tied for 47th with an 89 (+17). Freshman Matthew Bardsley (Orange, Mass.) tied for 61st (94, +22) and senior Matthew Lennon (Bow, N.H.) placed 68th (97, +25).
Franklin Pierce returns to the course on April 26, when the Ravens play host to the FPU Spring Invitational #2 at The Shattuck.
