Golf Finishes Second at FPU Fall Invitational

Powers finishes among top-10 for the fifth time this fall; Justin Haapala turns in strong fourth place finish

RINDGE, N.H. (October 13, 2010) -- The Franklin Pierce University golf team finished second at the FPU Fall Invitational on Wednesday afternoon at The Shattuck Golf Course in Jaffrey, N.H. The Ravens shot a 44-over-par, 332, while Le Moyne won the invitational with a 327 (+39).

Franklin Pierce Junior co-captain B.J. Powers (Southbury, Conn.), just two days after his dramatic individual championship at the SNHU Penmen Invitational, shot a seven-over-par, 79, to finish third in the individual standings. It marked his fifth top-10 finish of the fall.

Fellow co-captain Brian Fleckles (Sandwich, Mass.) and Justin Haapala (Danielson, Conn.) followed Powers as the duo tied for fourth by shooting identical scores of 81 (+9). Matt Lennon (Bow, N.H.) was the other Ravens' golfer to compete towards the team score as he finished 10th with a 91 (+19). Sophomore Ian Landry (Loudon, N.H.) teed off as one of Franklin Pierce's five competitors, but was forced to withdraw on the fifth hole due to injury.

A pair of Ravens' golfer also competed in the tournament, but as individuals. Freshman Adam Spencer (Jericho, Vt.) finished seventh with an 85 (+13), while classmate Dan Hinckley (Dracut, Mass.) followed in eighth with a 16-over-par, 88.

Franklin Pierce returns to action next Monday and Tuesday when it competes in the NEIGA Championship at The Captains Golf Course in Cape Cod, Mass. The tournament will be the team's final competition of the fall schedule.
