Golf Sits in 11th Place Following First Day of Northeast-10 Championship
Ravens struggle on first day of NE-10 Championship
ENDICOTT, N.Y. (October 3, 2010) -- The Franklin Pierce
University golf team shot a 45-over-par, 333, on Sunday and sits in
11th place following the first day of competition at the 2010
Northeast-10 Conference Championship at the En-Joie Country Club in
Endicott, N.Y. The championship will conclude on Monday with the
final round, which will begin in the morning.
Adelphi sits in first place after the first round as the Panthers
shot a 10-over, 298, while UMass-Lowell is in second at 309 (+21).
Bentley and Saint Rose are tied for third at 22-over (310).
Ravens junior co-captain B.J. Powers (Southbury,
Conn.) sits in 34th place following the first day as he
carded a 10-over-par, 82, in the first round. It was not a typical
round for Powers, who has been one of the most consistent golfers
in the conference this season as he has recorded three top-10
finishes in four tournaments during the fall schedule.
Justin Haapala (Danielson, Conn.) and Ian
landry (Loudon, N.H.) follow Powers as the two are tied
for 39th after they shot 11-over-par, 83s during the afternoon.
Junior co-captain Brian Fleckles (Sandwich,
Mass.) shot an 85 (+13) on the first day to sit in 48th
place, while Matt Lennon (Bow, N.H.) was the fifth
Ravens' golfer to compete on the afternoon and he carded an 88
(+16) to stand in 55th place following one round.
