B.J. Powers Finishes Fifth as Golf Places Eighth at Blazers Invitational

Powers has finished in the top-10 in three of four tournaments this fall

GRANBY, Mass. (September 29, 2010) -- The Franklin Pierce University golf team shot a 55-over-par, 343, on Wednesday afternoon to place eighth at the Blazers Invitational at the Westover Golf Course in Granby, Mass. However, the highlight of the afternoon was junior co-captain B.J. Powers' (Southbury, Conn.) impressive three-over-par, 75, which enabled him to finish fifth in the individual standings.

The fifth-place finish for Powers was his third top-10 performance in four fall tournaments this season. He has also finished among the top-11 in the individual standings in each of the four tournaments so far.

Competing in his first collegiate tournament, Adam Spencer (Jericho, Vt.) was Franklin Pierce's next highest finisher as he placed 37th after shooting an 87 (+15). Freshman Dan Hinckley (Dracut, Mass.) was the other Raven to finish among the top-50 as he placed 43rd following carding a 16-over-par 88.

Jeff Gloshinski (Worcester, Mass.) and Tyler Merrill (Litchfield, N.H.) were the other two Ravens to round out the squad competing in the tournament, as they finished 57th and 59th, respectively. Gloshinski fired a 93 (+21), while Merrill carded a 95 (+23).

Elms College, the tournament's host-school, won the event by shooting a 17-over-par, 305. Nichols finished second after carding a 317 (+29), and Rhode Island College rounded out the top-three by shooting a 320 (+32).

Franklin Pierce returns to action this weekend when it competes in the Northeast-10 Conference Championship at the En-Joie Country Club in Endicott, N.Y. The tournament will be held on Sunday and Monday.
