SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 20, 2011) -- The Franklin Pierce University golf team finished eighth at the 2011 AIC Sprinvitational on Tuesday at the Springfield Golf Club in Springfield, Mass. The Ravens shot a final round 328 (+40), to finish the tournament with a two-round total of 676 (+100). Host-school, American International, won the tournament with an 18-over par, 594.

Senior Justin Haapala (Danielson, Conn.) was the highest Ravens finisher as he placed 24th with a two-round score of 162 (+18). He shot 81 in both rounds to produce the solid individual finish for his team.

Junior co-captain B.J. Powers (Southbury, Conn.) responded from a sluggish opening round to produce a four-over par, 76, in the final round to jump up into a tie for 33rd. He produced a two-round total of 167 (+23).

Sophomore Ian Landry (Loudon, N.H.) followed in 36th place with a two-round score of 168 (+24). Landry, just like Powers, rebounded from an off first round to shoot an impressive 78 (+6) during the last round to make a high jump up in the individual standings.

Junior co-captain Brian Fleckles (Sandwich, Mass.) placed 44th after carding a two-round total of 181 (+37), and freshman Dan Hinckley (Dracut, Mass.) finished in 46th after shooting a two-round score of 187 (+43).

Also on Tuesday, another portion of the Ravens golf team took to action as several members competed in the Worcester State Invitational in Worcester, Mass. Franklin Pierce placed 18th in the event after shooting a 361 (+73). Rick Grey (Jaffrey, N.H.) and Adam Spencer (Jericho, Vt.) each tied for 53rd after shooting a 16-over par, 87. Andrew Thompson (Abington, Mass.) tied for 67th with a 19-over, 91, while Jeff Gloshinski (Worcester, Mass.) placed 80th with a 96 (+24). Robert Greggerson (Seekonk, Mass.) placed 86th after shooting a 105.
