Scerbinski Named Head Golf Coach at Franklin Pierce

Former ConVal mentor takes over for retiring Houghton after serving as assistant for past season

RINDGE, N.H. (June 8, 2009) - Franklin Pierce University has announced that Greg Scerbinski has taken over as head coach of the men's golf team. The announcement was made by Bruce Kirsh, Vice President and Director of Athletics, at the University and confirmed by President Dr. George J. Hagerty.

Scerbinski takes over for former head coach Owen Houghton who retired after 22 years with the men's golf program at the conclusion of the 2008-09 season. Houghton was the longest tenured head coach in the history of the Franklin Pierce athletic department.

Scerbinski, who served as Houghton's assistant coach this past season, retired following 34 years of teaching at ConVal High School in Peterborough, N.H. He also served as head coach of the Cougars varsity golf team from 2000-2008. Prior to his 34 years at ConVal, Scerbinski was an English teacher in the New York City school system for four years.

Scerbinski earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Fordham University in 1970 and holds a master's degree in sociology from New School for Social Research in New York. He is also an adjunct professor of World History in the Humanities Department at Franklin Pierce.
