William Powers sits in second in individual competition

BERNARDSTON, Mass. (October 4, 2009) - The Franklin Pierce University men's golf team carded a 323 (+35) and sits in a tie for fifth place following the first day of competition in the 2009 Northeast-10 Conference Championship. The event is being held at the Crumpin-Fox Golf Club in Bernardston, Mass., and American International is serving as the host-school.

Franklin Pierce's William Powers fired a two-over 74 in the opening round to sit in second place out of 60 competitors in the individual competition. He is two back of Southern New Hampshire's Shane Winslow, who is in first place after shooting an even-par 72 on the opening 18 holes.

Other Ravens and how they fare following the first round, include: Ian Landry (T27th, +10, 82); Peter Panopoulos (T31st, +11, 83); Brian Fleckles (T38th, +12, 84); Brandon Weiner (T54th, +17, 89).

American International and Southern New Hampshire each posted scores of 310 (+22) to share first-place honors following Sunday's action. UMass-Lowell is tied with Franklin Pierce for fifth heading into the final day.

The Ravens fifth-place spot is ahead of the projections the league had for them in the preseason poll. Franklin Pierce was tabbed to finish 12th, according to the poll which was voted on by the NE-10's coaches prior to the fall season.
