Panopoulos fires second-round 77 to finish with 154

Franklin Pierce Golf The Ravens finished 12th at the Northeast Intercollegiate Championship.

BLOOMFIELD, Conn. (September 21, 2009) – Senior Peter Panopoulos (Rindge, N.H.) shot a second-round 77 on Monday afternoon to finish with a two-day total of 154 and lead the Franklin Pierce University golf team to a team score of 640 and 12th place finish out of 17 teams at the Northeast Intercollegiate Championship, hosted by Post at Wintonbury Hills Golf Club. Panopoulos’ 154 put him in a four-way tie for 19th overall. American International junior Greg Strattner and sophomore Kevin Daniels tied for medalist honors at 144 to lead AIC to the team title with a two-day score of 591.

Behind Panopoulos for Franklin Pierce, sophomore Brian Fleckles (Sandwich, Mass.) paired his first-round 80 with a second-round 77 to finish tied for 31st with a 157. Further back, sophomore William Powers (Southbury, Conn.) tied for 46th with a 161 (82-79), freshman Ian Landry (Loudon, N.H.) carded a 168 (83-85) to finish 66th, and senior Brandon Weiner (Marlboro, N.J.) finished the championship in 75th position with a 180 (84-96).

American International took the team title by 14 shots over Wilmington, which finished second with a 605. Five shots further back, Adelphi finished third with a 610, while Le Moyne (613) and host Post (620) rounded out the top-five.

Individually, Strattner and Daniels finished one shot ahead of Southern New Hampshire sophomore D.J. Lantz (73-72) and Wilmington freshman Daniel Ott (76-69), who each carded a 145 over the two days. AIC junior Garrett Beyor rounded out a closely-bunched top-five with a 146 (72-74). Ott’s 69 tied him with Goldey-Beacom junior Wes Hood for low round of the day on Monday.

The Ravens return to the course on Wednesday, Sept. 30, when they travel to Chicopee, Mass. for the second Blazers Invitational of the season, hosted by Elms at Chicopee Country Club.
