Golf Tied For 13th After Day One Of Northeast Intercollegiate Championship
Panopoulos leads Ravens with 77
The Ravens are tied for 13th after the first day of the Northeast Intercollegiate Championship.
BLOOMFIELD, Conn.
(September 20, 2009) – Senior Peter
Panopoulos (Rindge, N.H.) shot a 77 on Sunday afternoon to
lead the Franklin Pierce University golf team to a team score of
322 and a tie for 13th place out of 17 teams after the first day of
the Northeast Intercollegiate Championship, hosted by Post at
Wintonbury Hills Golf Club. Panopoulos’ 77 ties him for 20th
position after the first day of the championship, which will
conclude on Monday. American International junior Greg Strattner
shot a 69 to lead all players on Sunday and lead AIC to a 294 and
the first-round lead.
Behind Panopoulos for Franklin Pierce, sophomore Brian
Fleckles (Sandwich, Mass.) is tied for 40th after a
first-round 80. Further back, sophomore William Powers
(Southbury, Conn.) is tied for 52nd with an 82, freshman
Ian Landry (Loudon, N.H.) shot an 83 and is tied
for 54th, and senior Brandon Weiner (Marlboro,
N.J.) finished the first round tied for 62nd with an
84.
American International enjoys an eight-shot lead over second-place
Adelphi (302 team score) after the first round. Behind Adelphi,
Wilmington (305), Dowling (306) and Bentley (312) are all within 20
shots of the lead and round out the top-five in third, fourth and
fifth, respectively.
Individually, Strattner holds a one-shot lead over Massachusetts
Lowell senior Brendan Livingston, who shot an opening-round 70.
Saint Rose sophomore Matt Horton, Bentley junior Alex Macielak and
AIC junior Garrett Beyor are each tied for third after first-round
72s to round out the top-five.
The Northeast Intercollegiate Championship continues and concludes
on Monday, Sept. 21 at Wintonbury Hills Golf Club.
