CHICOPEE, Mass. (September
8, 2009) – Sophomore Brian Fleckles
(Sandwich, Mass.) shot a 76 on Tuesday afternoon to tie
for second individually and lead the Franklin Pierce University
golf team to a team score of 319 and a second-place finish out of
nine teams at the Blazers Invitational, hosted by Elms, at Chicopee
Country Club. Nichols senior Shawn Santos took home medalist honors
as he carded a 73 and led the Bison to the tournament title with a
team score of 310.
Behind Fleckles for Franklin Pierce, freshman Ian Landry
(Loudon, N.H.) and sophomore William Powers
(Southbury, Conn.) finished among four players tied for
eighth overall as each shot a 79. Rounding out the Ravens
contingent in the middle of a four-way tie for 22nd at 85 were
seniors Peter Panopoulos (Rindge, N.H.) an
Brandon Weiner (Marlboro, N.J.).
After Nichols and Franklin Pierce, Brandeis placed third with a
320, Worcester took fourth with a 330 and Anna Maria rounded out
the top-five with a 331. Westfield State (335) and host Elms (359)
took sixth and seventh, respectively, while Emmanuel and Newbury
tied for eighth as each posted a 385.
Individually behind Santos, Worcester State sophomore Bob Bruso
finished second with a 75. Elms junior Andrew Sullivan and Nichols
freshman Nick Deni joined Fleckles at 76 to create a three-way tie
for third and round out the top-five.
The Ravens return to the course on Sept. 20-21 for the NEIGA
Championship at Wintonbury Hills Golf Club in Bloomfield, Conn.
