Golf Sits in Seventh Place After First Day of AIC Invitational; William Powers T-4th
William Powers within shouting distance of individual title at 2010 AIC Invitational; sits in fourth place following first day of competition
SPRINGFIELD, MASS. (April
19, 2010) - The Franklin Pierce University golf team sits
in seventh place out of 10 teams following one day of competition
at the 2010 American International Invitational. The Ravens carded
a 324 (+36) on Monday at the Springfield Country Club in
Springfield, Mass. The AIC Invite will conclude on Tuesday with the
final round, which will begin at 9 a.m.
AIC, the host-school in the event, sits in first place following
the first day as it shot a 25-over par, 313. UMass-Lowell and
Adelphi round out the top three teams in the field as the
Riverhawks are second with a 315 (+27) and the Panthers are third
with a 316 (+28).
Franklin Pierce was led in the first round by sophomore
William Powers (Southbury, Conn.), who fired an
impressive six-over par, 78, to sit in a tie for fourth place out
of 51 golfers.
Senior Peter Panopoulos (Rindge, N.H.) was the
other Raven to find himself among the top-25 in the individual
standings following the first day as he carded an 81 (+9).
Freshman Ian Landry (Loudon, N.H.) is tied for
28th after shooting a 10-over, 82, while sophomore Brian
Fleckles (Sandwich, Mass.) and senior Brandon
Weiner (Marlboro, N.J.) are in a tie for 32nd at 11-over
par (83).
