Franklin Pierce Ties for Seventh at Worcester State Invitational

Sophomore Justin Haapala posted a five-over-par round of 76 to lead the Ravens at the Worcester State Invitational this week.

Haapala leads Ravens "B" squad with 76 for eighth-place finish

STERLING, Mass. (April 23, 2009) - The Franklin Pierce University golf team's "B squad" turned in a seventh place finish at the Worcester State College Invitational on the 6,323-yard, par 71, layout at Sterling National Country Club earlier this week.

Franklin Pierce posted a 326 team score to finish even with Brandeis University. Salem State College took the team title with a score of 298 to out-pace second place Nichols College (304) by six strokes. Salem State junior Jeff Santora (Millbury, Mass.) fired a three-under-par round of 68 to earn medalist honors and lead the Vikings to the team title. Worcester State sophomore Bob Bruso (Auburn, Mass.) took second with an even par 71.

Sophomore Justin Haapala (Danielson, Conn./Killingly) led Franklin Pierce with a career-low five-over-par round of 76 to place eighth overall. Freshman William Powers (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug) tied for 30th overall after carding an 81.

Franklin Pierce is back in action tomorrow for the Elms College Blazers Invitational in Chicopee, Mass.
