Castleton State Wins Franklin Pierce Spring Invitational

Freshman Brian Fleckles earned medalist honors for the second straight event for Franklin Pierce, finishing in a three-way tie atop the individual leaderboard at today's Spring Invitational.

JAFFREY, N.H. (April 29, 2009) - Castleton State College captured the team title by just a stroke at the Franklin Pierce Spring Invitational on the 6,077-yard par-71 layout at The Shattuck this afternoon. Franklin Pierce freshmen Brian Fleckles (Sandwich, Mass./Sandwich) and Robert Greggerson (Seekonk, Mass./Seekonk) along with Castleton's Brian Hopkins were tri-medalists at the event after posting identical rounds of 82.

Castleton State posted a 347 team score to edge the Franklin Pierce "B" squad by a single stroke, while Franklin Pierce's "A" team finished with a score of 350. 


Freshman Robert Greggerson carded a season-low 82 to collect tri-medalist honors.

Fleckles, who earns medalist honors for the second straight event for Franklin Pierce, bounced back from a 43 on the front nine to post a 39 on the back in carding his 82. Greggerson posted the same scores on the front and back, while Hopkins followed up a 40 on the front with 42 on the back. Castleton freshman Michael Krahn finished a stroke back with a round of 83 for fourth place overall, while Franklin Pierce freshman Matthew Lennon (Bow, N.H./Bow) rounded out the top five with an 85.

This afternoon's Invitational was the season finale for Franklin Pierce, but also the final in charge for Franklin Pierce head coach Owen Houghton who is retiring after 22 seasons in charge of the Ravens.
