Franklin Pierce Opens Seventh at Assumption Shootout

Freshman Brian Fleckles placed second overall in his collegiate debut at the Assumption Shootout on Tuesday.

Fleckles places second overall with two-over-par round of 74 in collegiate debut 

BOYLSTON, Mass. (September 16, 2008) - The Franklin Pierce University golf team opened its fall season with a seventh place finish at the Assumption College Shootout on the par-72 layout at Cyprian Keyes Golf Club.

Freshman Brian Fleckles (Sandwich, Mass./Sandwich) had a tremendous collegiate debut for Franklin Pierce as he carded a two-over-par round of 74 to place second overall at the event. American International's Garrett Beyor (Monson, Mass.) earned medalist honors at the event with an even-par round of 72 to lead the Yellow Jackets to the team title.

AIC posted a 317 team score to lead a group of seven teams that were separated top to bottom by just 13 strokes. The Yellow Jackets edged Bentley College (319) by two strokes.

Also contributing for Franklin Pierce was freshman Matt Lennon (Bow, N.H./Bow) with a round of 84 in his first collegiate event to place 17th overall.

Franklin Pierce returns to the links on Sunday and Monday for the ECAC Division II Championships, hosted by Dowling College, at Long Island National in Riverhead.
