Franklin Pierce Closes Out Fall Season at NEIGA Championship
Jasinski finishes 39th
overall with two-day score of 156
BREWSTER, Mass. (October 23, 2007) – The Franklin
Pierce University golf team closed out its fall season with a
33rd-place finish at the 73rd Annual New England Intercollegiate
Golf Association (NEIGA) Championship on the par-72 layouts at Port
Captains and Starboard Courses.
Franklin Pierce was led by senior captain Craig Jasinski
(Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) who posted the best two-day
score at this event in program history, completing the two rounds
with a score of 156 to finish in a tie for 39th overall in the
field of 211 and 14th among Division II golfers at the event. His
day two round of 77 is the best single round for a Franklin Pierce
golfer at the NEIGA Championships all-time.
Franklin Pierce posted a two-day team score of 668 to place 33rd
overall, moving up four spots in the standings on Tuesday with a
day two score of 329. The University of Rhode Island captured the
overall team title at the event, which includes teams from
Divisions I, II & III, with a team score of 600. Bryant
University captured the Division II title with a score of 614 to
place third overall. Salem State’s Brian Cawley earned
medalist honors with a two-day score of 144 (two over par).
Franklin Pierce sophomore Peter Panopoulos (Rindge,
N.H./Conant) finished with a two-day score of 165,
including a round of 81 today, to finish in a tie for 110th
overall.
At the Championship banquet on Sunday night, Head Coach Owen
Houghton received a gift in recognition of his 20-plus years as a
head coach in the region.
