Franklin Pierce Breaks Records at ECAC Championship
Jasinski’s
program-record low round of 71 helps Ravens post record 301 team
score on day two
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (September 24, 2007) – The Franklin
Pierce University golf team saw a pair of program records fall
while posting an 18th-place finish at the ECAC Division II
Championships, hosted by Le Moyne College, on the 6,213-yard,
par-71, Drumlins Country Club East Course on Sunday and Monday.
Franklin Pierce completed the two-day event with a program record
low team score of 301, to finish the championship with a 622 score
after completing Sunday’s round at 321. Today’s score
broke the previous low score of 308 set on the very same course at
the 2005 ECAC Championship. Senior captain Craig Jasinski
(Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) carded an even-par 71 this
afternoon to break the program’s individual single-day record
score of 72 set a handful of times, including former Raven Steve
Balchunas who posted the score on day one of the 2005 ECAC
Championship. Jasinski finished tied for 26th overall with his
two-day score of 149 (78-71) – one stroke shy of the best
individual two-day score in program history.
Host Le Moyne captured the team title with a two-day score of 585
(289-296), led by co-medalist Joe Tesori who posted a two day score
of 143 (73-70) along with St. Thomas Aquinas’ Nick
Zolotas.
Four of Franklin Pierce’s five golfers broke 80 on Monday.
Sophomore Peter Panopoulos (Rindge, N.H./Conant)
placed 58th overall with a two-day score of 155 (78-77), while
senior Kevin Rossi (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston)
finished with a total of 158 (82-76) for 68th overall.
Franklin Pierce returns to the links next weekend for the
Northeast-10 Conference Championships, hosted by the University of
Massachusetts Lowell, at Vesper Country Club in Tyngsboro, Mass.,
on Sunday and Monday.
