Franklin Pierce Finishes 36th at NEIGA Championship

Balchunas finishes tied for 92nd overall with two-day score of 163

BREWSTER, Mass. (October 26, 2006) - The Franklin Pierce men's golf team completed its fall season with a 36th-place showing at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championships on the par-72 Captains Course this week.

Franklin Pierce posted a two-day score of 677 (329-348) at the event which featured 43 programs from Divisions I, II & III. The University of Rhode Island won the event with a two-day score of 588 (286-302), while Bryant University (317-313=630) was the top NCAA Division II program for a 12th-place finish. Rhode Island's Ben Spitz took medalist honors with a one-under-par score of 143 (69-74).

Sophomore Steve Balchunas (Brockton, Mass./Coyle-Cassidy) led Franklin Pierce with a two-day score of 163 (78-85) to finish in a tie for 92nd among the 213 individuals competing over the two days. His score was good for 23rd among NCAA Division II competitors.

Junior Craig Jasinski (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) completed the two days with a score of 169 (82-87), while freshman Peter Panopoulos (Rindge, N.H./Conant) posted a score of 172 (83-89).
