Franklin Pierce Competes at Dowling Invitational
Balchunas places 25th in two day event at Long Island National
RIVERHEAD, N.Y. September 18, 2006) - The Franklin Pierce men's golf team turned in a 16th-place finish at the Dowling College Invitational held on the par 71 Long Island National Golf Club this weekend.
Franklin Pierce posted a 643 team score (323-320) over the two-day event, finishing just two strokes behind the College of Saint Rose for 15th place. Saint Thomas Aquinas College captured the team title with a 591 team score (289-302), edging the University of New Haven (298-294=592) by a single stroke.
New Haven senior Brent Silano captured medallist honors with a two-day score of two-over-par 144 (72-72), outpacing five other individuals by a single stroke. Sophomore Steve Balchunas (Brockton, Mass./Coyle-Cassidy) led Franklin Pierce with a two-day score of 152 (77-75) for a 25th-place finish overall.
Junior Kevin Rossi (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) finished the two days with a 163 (81-82), while sophomore Corey Dunn (Port Jefferson, N.Y./Comsewogue) posted a score of 165 (83-82).
Franklin Pierce is back in action this weekend for the 2006 Northeast-10 Conference Championships, hosted by Le Moyne College, at the Links at Sunset Ridge in Marcellus, N.Y., on Saturday and Sunday.
