Franklin Pierce Places Fifth at River Hawk Classic

Balchunas cards two-day total of 159 for fourth among individuals

TYNGSBORO, Mass. (April 10, 2006) - The Franklin Pierce men's golf team opened its spring schedule with a fifth place showing at the UMass Lowell River Hawk Golf Classic, which concluded today at Vesper Country Club.

Franklin Pierce posted a two-day score of 670 (338-332) as Southern New Hampshire University took the team title with a score of 634 (318-316). Bentley College was second (324-335=659), UMass Lowell third (337-326=663) and Assumption College fourth (331-336=667).

Freshman Steve Balchunas (Brockton, Mass./Coyle-Cassidy) led the Ravens with a two-day score of 159 (78-81) for a fourth place finish among individuals. Southern New Hampshire senior Adam Goinsalvos (Merrimack, N.H.) took medallist honors with a two-day score of 150 (75-75).

Freshman Corey Dunn (Port Jefferson, N.Y./Comsewogue) finished eighth overall for Franklin Pierce with a combined score of 165 (81-84), while sophomore Craig Jasinski (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) posted a score of 172 (87-85) for a 21st-place tie overall.

Franklin Pierce returns to the links on Thursday at the Western New England College Invitational in Springfield, Mass.
