Elms Wins Franklin Pierce Autumn Invitational
MCLA's Sullivan takes wind-swept title by carding 77
JAFFREY, N.H. (October 21, 2005) - Elms College captured the team title at the Franklin Pierce Autumn Invitational by a single stroke on the par-71 The Shattuck this afternoon in cold, wet and windy conditions.
Elms posted a 335 team score to take the team championship by just a single stroke over UMass Lowell (336). Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts placed third (340), while Franklin Pierce took fifth (347). Springfield College (380), Franklin Pierce's "B" team (428) and Green Mountain College (463) also participated in the six-team event.
MCLA's Brandon Sullivan was the lone golfer to break 80 as he carded a 77 to take medallist honors by three strokes over Neil Daigneault of Elms and UMass Lowell's Scott Nevers.
Freshman Corey Dunn (Port Jefferson, N.Y./Comsewogue) led Franklin Pierce with a round of 85 to finish in a tie for sixth overall. Classmates Steve Balchunas (Brockton, Mass./Coyle-Cassidy) and Jacob Greene (Gardner, Mass./The Winchendon School) both carded 86's for tenth place.
Franklin Pierce draws its fall season to a close with today's event and will resume its 2005-06 season in April.
