Elms Takes Franklin Pierce Spring Invitational
Blazers Daigneault earns medallist honors with round of 78
JAFFREY, N.H. (April 26, 2006) - Elms College, led by medallist Neil Daigneault, captured the Franklin Pierce Spring Invitational on the par-71 The Shattuck this afternoon in bright and sunny, but breezy conditions. The Blazers swept both Franklin Pierce Invites this year, also collecting team honors in the fall.
Elms posted a 336 team score, finishing ahead of second place UMass Lowell (350). Host Franklin Pierce was third (355), while Saint Michael's College took fourth (362).
Daigneault, who placed second overall in the fall at The Shattuck, collected medallist honors this afternoon as he carded a 78 for Elms. Franklin Pierce freshman Corey Dunn (Port Jefferson, N.Y./Comsewogue) placed second with a round of 81, while Elms' Sean Hammond and Chris Menne from UMass Lowell finished tied for third with rounds of 82.
Freshman Steve Balchunas (Brockton, Mass./Coyle Cassidy) helped Franklin Pierce with an 85, recovering from a 47 on the front nine with a 38 on the back, to finish in the tie for fifth overall.
Franklin Pierce draws its spring season to a close on Friday at the Elms College Invitational in Chicopee, Mass.
