Franklin Pierce Places 16th at ECAC Championship

Balchunas finishes first collegiate event four strokes out of top ten

LIVERPOOL, N.Y. (October 4, 2005) - The Franklin Pierce men's golf team finished tied for 16th place at the 2005 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division II Championship, hosted by Le Moyne College, at the par 70 Liverpool Golf & Public Country Club on Monday.

Franklin Pierce posted a 319-team score on the second day to finish with a combined total of 627, just eight strokes out of the top ten. Southern New Hampshire University took the team title with a two-day score of 593.

Freshman Steve Balchunas (Brockton, Mass./Coyle-Cassidy) completed his first collegiate event with a second-day round of 79 to finish with a two-day score of 151 and tied for 30th place - four strokes out of the top ten. Bryant University's Jim O'Connell posted a two-day score of 141 to take medallist honors.

Freshman Jacob Greene (Gardner, Mass./The Winchendon School) posted the Ravens low round of the second day with a 77 and finished with a two-day total of 156 for 48th place. Freshman Jason Kreps (Culver, Ind./Culver Military Academy) carded back-to-back rounds of 79 for 57th overall with a two-day score of 158.

Franklin Pierce is back in action on Thursday at the Saint Anselm College Invitational.
