Franklin Pierce Eighth at ECAC Championship

Balchunas one shot off the pace in first collegiate event

LIVERPOOL, N.Y. (October 3, 2005) - The Franklin Pierce men's golf team is tied for eighth place, just five strokes out of third, following day one action at the 2005 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division II Championship, hosted by Le Moyne College, at the par 70 Liverpool Golf & Public Country Club on Sunday.

Freshman Steve Balchunas (Brockton, Mass./Coyle-Cassidy) is just one stroke off the individual pace as he fired an opening round 72 (+2) in his collegiate debut. Balchunas is just one stroke behind four golfers who carded one-over-par rounds of 71 on Sunday.

Franklin Pierce posted a 308 team score, which is just five strokes behind NE-10 Champions Bryant University and Pace University who are tied for third with 308 team scores. Southern New Hampshire University leads the 20-team event after posting a 295 team score. The Ravens are third among the 11 NE-10 teams competing at the Championship.

Sophomore Craig Jasinski (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) carded a round of 78 on Sunday and is tied for 45th overall. Freshmen Jacob Greene (Gardner, Mass./The Winchendon School) and Jason Kreps (Culver, Ind./Culver Military Academy) are tied for 52nd after posting identical scores of 79.

The ECAC Championship continues with final round action today.
