Franklin Pierce Rounds Out Fall Slate at NEIGA Championships

Matulonis leads Ravens with two-day score of 170 at The Captains in Brewster, Mass.

BREWSTER, Mass. (October 20, 2004) - The Franklin Pierce men's golf team rounded out its fall season at the 70th Annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championship, hosted by The Captains Golf Club, on Monday and Tuesday. The event features 46 Division I, II and III institutions from throughout New England.

Senior Nick Matulonis (Springfield, Vt./Springfield) led all Franklin Pierce golfers with a score of 170 (81-89) over the two-day event. Classmate Mike Smith (Hanover, Mass./Hanover) and freshman Craig Jasinski (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) each posted scores of 172. Smith followed up an opening round 81 with a 91, while Jasinski carded identical rounds of 86.

Sacred Heart's Patrick Fillian captured the individual title in a playoff over Ben Spitz of Rhode Island after each finished the two-day event with two-over-par 145 scores.

The University of Connecticut captured the team title with a 606 score. Franklin Pierce posted a 689 after its 335 on day one was its lowest ever at the event. The Ravens placed 42nd overall, but eighth among Division II institutions.
