Franklin Pierce Places 11th at ECAC Division II Championships

Ravens rebound from tough day one with record low score on Sunday

SYRACUSE, N.Y.  (October 4, 2004) - The Franklin Pierce men's golf team fired a program-low round of 308 on day two, with four of its five golfers posting scores in the 70's, as the Ravens placed 11th out of 19 teams at the ECAC Division II Championships held at the 6,213-yard, par 71 layout at the Drumlins East Course this weekend.

Franklin Pierce rebounded from an opening round 331 team score in Saturday's opening round to post a program record low 308 on Sunday and move into a three-way tie for 11th with a two-day total of 639. Saint Thomas Aquinas took the team title with a 592 score at the event. The Ravens tied for sixth among the 11 Northeast-10 Conference schools at the Championship.            

Senior co-captain Mike Smith (Hanover, Mass./Hanover) paced the Ravens with a two-day score of 154, including a four-over-par 75 on Sunday, to finish tied for 18th among the 97 individuals. St. Thomas Aquinas junior Matt DeMaro (Newburgh, N.Y.) and Le Moyne sophomore Dan McCarthy (Syracuse, N.Y.), the reigning ECAC Individual Champion, earned co-medallist honors with two-day scores of 144.

Junior Dave Reid (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth) posted a career-low round for the second-straight week with a 76 on Sunday to finish the event with a two-day score of 158. Freshman Andy Bernardo (Warwick, R.I./Bishop Hendrickson) posted a two-day score of 163, including a closing round 79, while classmate Craig Jasinski (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) posted a 78 on Sunday for a two-day score of 167.
