Smith, Izzi lead rusty Ravens in spring opener

PLYMOUTH, Mass. (April 21, 2003) - The Franklin Pierce men's golf team, without the benefit of a spring practice round, placed fourth at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational at the Atlantic Country Club last week.

Franklin Pierce posted a 359 team score to finish behind Babson College (327), Western New England College (321), and event winners UMass-Dartmouth (315).

JuniorsMike Smith (Hanover, Mass/Hanover) and Paul Izzi (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) led the Ravens as each carded scores of 87 for the day. Sophomore Nick Matulonis (Springfield, Vt./Springfield) finished two shots behind Smith and Izzi, with an 89.

Franklin Pierce looks to rebound when it participates in the Massachusetts Invitational on Thursday, April 24, at Stowe Acres in Sterling, Mass.
