Izzi, Smith Lead Franklin Pierce at NE-10 Championship

Juniors have career best Sunday in leading Ravens to near-record day

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (September 23, 2002) - Franklin Pierce juniors Paul Izzi (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) and Mike Smith (Hanover, Mass./Hanover) had career days on Sunday at the Northeast-10 Conference Championship held at the 6,213-yard, par-71 Drumlins Golf Course this weekend.

Smith posted a round of 74 yesterday to move into a tie for 26th place with a two-day score of 156. Izzi registered a career-low 75 and finished with a 158 total for a 30th-place finish. He provided the shot of the tournament when he holed-out from the fairway for an eagle two on the par-four 14th hole yesterday.

While the Ravens placed 10th in the 12-team event as a team, they had a banner afternoon on Sunday with a team score of 316, which was just three strokes shy of the program record one-day score of 313 set at the Saint Anselm Invitational two years ago. Southern New Hampshire University claimed its second-straight NE-10 team title with a 578 team score.

Franklin Pierce posted a 650-team score. Franklin Pierce junior Alex Hodgman (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) completed a solid week with a 39th-place finish, posting a two-day score of 163 (83-80).

The Ravens return to the links on Thursday, October 3, at the Saint Anselm Autumn Invitational.
