Franklin Pierce Men Place 20th at Duke Nelson Invitational
Smith leads Ravens in first career intercollegiate event
MIDDLEBURY, Vt. (September 16, 2002) - The Franklin Pierce men's golf team placed 20th out of 25 teams at Middlebury College's Duke Nelson Golf Invitational at Myhre Golf Course this weekend.
The Ravens posted a 682 (349-333) team score, placing fourth among six other NCAA Division II institutions at the event. Williams College captured the team title with a 602 team score at the two-day event.
Franklin Pierce was led by junior Mike Smith (Hanover, Mass./Hanover) who fired a two-day total of 162 (79-83) to place 59th (out of 123) in his first career intercollegiate event. Classmate Jon Butler (Cheshire, Mass./Hoosac) placed 92nd overall with a 170 (92-78) total, one stroke ahead of teammate Alex Hodgeman (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) with a 171 (84-87) total.
