Franklin Pierce Men’s Golf Finishes Sixth at WNEC Invitational

Nackoul fires three-over-par 75 to take third place

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 12, 2001) - The Franklin Pierce men's golf team placed sixth among 14 schools at the Western New England College Invitational held at the par-72 Veterans Golf Course on Thursday.

Sophomore Aaron Nackoul (Pittsfield, Mass./Pittsfield) continued his hot play with a three-over-par round of 75 to take third place overall and lead Franklin Pierce, who finished one-stroke better than 2001 Northeast-10 Conference Champion Southern New Hampshire University.

Franklin Pierce, who shot a 334 team score, finished 25-strokes off the pace, set by host Western New England (309). The Ravens were the top Division II squad in the field, surpassing Southern New Hampshire (335) and American International College (363).

Freshman Nick Matulonis (Springfield, Vt./Springfield) also helped the Franklin Pierce
cause with a season-low round of 82. Sophomore Alex Hodgman (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) posted a score of 88, classmate Paul Izzi (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) shot 89 and freshman Keith Medros (Salem, Mass./Bishop Fenwick) shot 93.

The Franklin Pierce golf team returns to the links on Wednesday, October 17, when it hosts the Franklin Pierce Invitational II at the par-71 Shattuck Golf Course, in Jaffrey, at noon.
