Franklin Pierce Mens Golf Finishes 16th at Duke Nelson
Nackoul Highlights Ravens Weekend with 14th-place Finish
MIDDLEBURY, Vt. (Sept. 17, 2001) - The Franklin Pierce men's golf team placed 16th among 21 schools competing in the 2001 Duke Nelson Invitational, hosted by Middlebury College over the weekend.
Franklin Pierce shot a two-day total of 670 with a Saturday round of 330 and a 340 on Sunday. The Duke Nelson was won by Division III power Skidmore College with a 610 team score. Skidmore won a tiebreaker with Williams College.
Franklin Pierce was led by sophomore Aaron Nackoul (Pittsfield, Mass./Pittsfield), who shot a two-day total of 154, just 12-strokes off the medalist score of 142 posted by Skidmore's Joey Pohle to lead 105 individual competitors.
Paul Izzi (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) posted a two-day score of 166 to finish tied for 59th, senior Tim Esposito (Brewerton, N.Y./Paul V. Moore) posted a 174 and tied for 82nd, sophomore Alex Hodgman (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) shot a 178 to tie for 86th, while classmate Chris DeGeorge (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug) finished with 183 to tie for 94th.
The Franklin Pierce golf team returns to the links on Thursday, September 27, for the ECAC North Qualifier.
