Nackoul Qualifies For ECAC Championships

Freshman Aaron Nackoul (Pittsfield, Mass.) became the second Franklin Pierce golfer to qualify for the ECAC Championship in three years Thursday when he shot a six-over-par round of 78 during the Northern New England Regional at the Wachusett Country Club in Worcester, Mass.

Three teams automatically qualified for the championships from each regional tournament. The top two individuals and ties in each region, not on the qualifying teams, advance to the championship.

Since the top three individual qualifiers from yesterday's event at Wachusett CC were on teams that qualified for the championship, Nackoul advanced as the fourth qualifier.

Matt Kuzara of Babson was the medalist with a 75. Boston College (313), Babson (314) and Salem State (318) posted the lowest four-man scores to advance to the ECAC Championship, Oct. 7-8 at Saratoga Spa State Park in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

Franklin Pierce finished fifth out of nine teams at 332.

Franklin Pierce's John Learson (Chelmsford, Mass.), who qualified for the ECAC Championship in 1998, shot 81 on Thursday. Other scores for the Ravens were 82 by Tim Esposito (Brewerton, N.Y.), 91 by Jon Butler (Cheshire, Conn.) and 102 by Chris DeGeorge (Southbury, Conn.).
