Men's Basketball: Ravens Snap Losing Streak in 20-Point Victory Over The University of New Haven

RINDGE, N.H (1/17/2024) -- The Franklin Pierce University men's basketball team snapped a six-game losing streak Wednesday night with a big win in front of the home crowd against New Haven, 94-74.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The first half was the Andrew Politi Show for Franklin Pierce. The sophomore guard from Salem, NH, led all scorers with 15 points and was draining threes deep from behind the arc. The crowd loved it, and Politi provided the spark for Franklin Pierce to get their offense going. He finished the game with 18 points and shot 6 for 8 from behind the arc. All his points came off three-pointers. 
•Through the first 20 minutes, the Ravens and Chargers traded points but Pierce closed out the half with a 41-37 lead. 
• In the second half, the Ravens took command of the game outscoring the Chargers 53-47 to claim the 94-74 win. Franklin Pierce snapped their six-game losing streak and captured their first win of the new year. 
• Franklin Pierce Junior Forward Sean Trumper (Ashford, United Kingdom) had 23 points, shot 9 for 17 from the field, and hauled in 13 rebounds to capture his fifth double-double of the season. He has scored 20 or more points in eight games this season. 
• Sophomore forward Ugo Nwachukwu (Imo State, Nigeria) went a perfect 5 for 5 from the field with 13 points and grabbed six boards. 

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS
• Franklin Pierce shot 56% from the field (34 for 61). New Haven shot 43% from the field (26 for 60)
• Franklin Pierce shot 54% from behind the arc (14 for 26). New Haven shot 36% from behind the arc (11 for 31). 
• Franklin Pierce shot 86% from the free throw line (12 for 14). New Haven shot 61% from the free-throw line (11 for 18).
• Franklin Pierce finished the game with 35 bench points and 38 points in the paint.
