Consistent, Balanced Attack Leads Men's Basketball Past Saint Rose, 87-56

RINDGE, N.H. (1/14/2023) - The Franklin Pierce men's basketball sought out their first victory at home since the start of the new year, and did just that against the College of Saint Rose on Saturday afternoon, claiming the win by a score of 87-56 at The Fieldhouse.

The Ravens improve to 9-7 (5-5 NE10), and have now claimed wins in two straight contests, both of which have come against in-conference opponents. On the other end, the Golden Knights drop to 7-11 (1-9 NE10) overall, and have extended their loss streak to five in a row.

The Ravens quickly poured it on over the opening three minutes of the first half, powering out of the gate with an 11-0 run which included seven points from junior forward Sean Bresnan (Yonkers, N.Y.). After Saint Rose finally found success shortly thereafter, Bresnan jumped into double figures on a three-pointer that made it 14-2 Franklin Pierce, and eventually cruised to a 17-point first half, going 7-of-10 from the field and 3-of-5 from behind the arc. Sophomores Sean Trumper (Ashford, United Kingdom) and Jarnel Snow-Guzman (Lynn, Mass.) each contributed sets of their own, each dropping seven points as Pierce outscored the Knights by a 47-24 edge. The Raven's 47 points was their second-highest first half point total so far this season, and they shot an impressive 59.4% from the field and 50% from behind the arc.

Entering the second half, Franklin Pierce continued to keep some of the first frame momentum with consistent production on the offensive front, matching the Golden Knights basket-for-basket. Jarnel Snow-Guzman kept the ball rolling with another eight points scored in the second, which included a three-point jumper in Pierce's longest run of the half (9-0). It was also a cause for celebration nearing the end of the contest, as the final moments featured the first ever collegiate points for freshman Andrew Politi (Salem, N.H.) on a three-pointer of his own. All-in-all, the Ravens outscored the Golden Knights 40-32 in the closing half, and cruised to the 87-56 victory.

Sean Bresnan finished the evening with a team-leading 23 total points, shooting 9-of-13 from the field and 3-of-6 from behind the arc. Jarnel Snow-Guzman combined his first and second half totals for 15 points scored, shooting 6-of-8 from the field, and sophomore Antonio Chandler (Piscataway, N.J.) broke through with 11 points off the bench, going 5-of-8 in field goals. Franklin Pierce had an impressive afternoon  as a squad on the floor, finishing 52.3% from all locations and 38.5% (10 for 26) from behind the arc, scoring 44 points in the paint and 31 points off the bench.

The Ravens return to action at The Fieldhouse on Tuesday, January 17th for an out-of-conference matchup against the College of Staten Island at 7 p.m.
